About Us
History and Mandate
In 1980, the Saskatchewan Community School Program was developed
by Saskatchewan Learning (then Saskatchewan Education). During
the early 1980's a group of Community Education professionals
formed the Saskatchewan Community Schools Association. The
mandate of the Association was, and continues to be:
• To promote the Community School concept;
• To communicate and disseminate information;
• To provide in-service;
• To be a mutual support.
Membership in the Association continues to grow as the number
of designated Community Schools has increased from 16 schools
in 1980 to 99 officially designated schools in 2003. In 2008, Community Schools moved to the First Nations & Metis Branch of the Ministry of Learning.

"Leading the Way in Community Education"
Community Schools in Saskatchewan have been delivering a
Community Education Program for many years. As more schools
have become designated Community Schools, this innovative,
effective way of approaching education is becoming mainstream.
